Intro
Combinatorial Chemistry has emerged as a breakthrough technology in mid 90’s and paved a new way to innovations in several disciplines of chemistry. This new powerful technique has created a great momentum among the researchers around the world both in academic and industry, especially the pharmaceutical industries, to explore the synthesis of a large number potential drug like candidates with desired structural requirements as well as variety of its analogues. Today, all major pharmaceutical companies are involved in combinatorial chemistry and high throughput screening method as a part of their research and development program due to its speed and cost effectiveness of generating an ideal target with great diversity in comparison with conventional synthesis. The success of this approach has rapidly made great impact not only among the chemical biology and drug discovery research but also in catalysts, pigments, polymers, advanced materials and agricultural chemistry.
History
Two notable leading scientists in Japan, Professor Takashi Takahashi, Tokyo Institute of Technology and Professor Satoshi Omura, Kitasato University, have began to introduce this promising technology to industries in Japan through their immense experience in solid support organic synthesis and automated synthesis. They extended their vision in collaborating with help of leading industries in Japan, Tokyo Kasei Kogyo(TCI), Yamato Scientific, Transpect and Biolinks to propose a joint venture company called “ChemGenesis” in order to strengthen the bond between academic and industrial research relationship as well as break the dubious thoughts of combinatorial chemistry underlying in their mind.
